Description

With the Revolution leading to the King's execution, the King's Garden was renamed the Botanical Garden in 1793. It is the only garden whose opening hours are dictated by nature: open from sunrise to sunset, its schedule varies throughout the year. Marin Montagut captures it in an aerial view, accompanied by its most illustrious inhabitants, such as its flamingos, dinosaurs, and beautiful flowers. This watercolor illustration is presented here as a wall hanging.

The decorative wall hanging was a collaborative effort: it was hand-drawn by Marin Montagut and then printed by Antoinette Poisson. Marin created the original drawings himself, respecting the spirit of 18th-century engravings. Faithful to the quality of materials used at the time, "À Paris chez Antoinette Poisson" then pressed each illustration individually in their Parisian workshop, using a traditional press, on handmade laid domino paper made from 100% pure rags, handcrafted in France. Finally, Marin mounted each engraving onto two wooden strips that curl up like a scroll and are tied with a grosgrain ribbon, in the style of handwritten maps of the period.

The limited series in color, signed and numbered from 1 to 200 for each garden, is exclusively hand-painted in watercolor, one by one.
